Embracing Change

August 2010 was an eventful month for our 21/2 year old. Events unfold as such in no particular order:-

>>>Spent a week in KL with grandparents while Mummy and Daddy were preparing for move

>>>'Promoted' to Nursery 1 class, Firefly Class along with other friends, i.e. Jack2x and Caleb (He was previously in pre-nursery Dragonfly Class)

>>>Got to know Firefly class teachers Ms Renee and Ms Adette a little better

>>>Said goodbye to dear Sun Lao Shi as she leaves the school to teach slightly older kids at another school branch

Ms Myn, Sun Lao Shi and Kayne

Here's a video of Sun Lao Shi and Kayne during evening pick-up time. Kayne is going to miss Lao Shi very much.

Mad about numbers

So much has changed and developed since Kayne turned 2 at the start of this year. We felt his development moving at lightning speed after Chinese New Year. Kayne started counting and is still very passionate about it.

Here's a video of Kayne taken on 10 July 2010, Saturday late evening spouting numbers in a 'conference call'...

>>>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXks1jYwrmc

How do you know when a kid gets all crazy over numbers:-

>>>
He points out to Daddy & Mummy house nos during evening walks

>>>
As Lao Shi tells a story and turns the pages of an extra large story book in the company of Kayne and classmates, he shouts at the top of his voice and points to the page numbers at the bottom corner of the book and go "twoooo, threeeeee, ouuur,..."

In the end, Lao Shi adjusted her grip on the book by placing her fingers over the page numbers so that they are hidden from view from our very enthusiastic Kayne.

>>>
He reads his books of numbers and starts improvising, "Daddy oneeee, Daddy twoooo, Daddy threeeee,..."

At times he goes, "Oneeee Daddy, Twooooo Mummy, Threeeee Daddy, ouurrr Mummy,..." ~ you get the idea!

>>>
He counts 1 to 10 at least fifty times in his cot, before taking a nap.

>>>
During outdoor time in pre-school, Kayne picks up the spray bottle in his right hand and watering can in his left, walks towards the vegetable plot in school and goes, "Oneeeee (while spraying water droplets at the garlic seedlings), twooooooo (while watering the tomato seedlings), threeeeee (garlic seedlings), oourrrrrrr (tomato seedlings),..."
>>>
Having now mastered 1 to 10, ventures towards 11 to 20.

Thank God it's a Weekend (TGIW)
God must have invented weekdays, so that weekends come by,

God must have sent out the sun, to see fancy hats from the sky,
Thank God for weekends and more fun in the sun!

Sayang Sayang Song

There’s a special song that Mommy sings to the kid to get him to call out names of family members. The kid will end each line saying the names as shown in magenta italics…

“Mommy sayang Kayne2x; [Momma]
Daddy sayang Kayne2x; [Daddy]
Po Po sayang Kayne2x; [Do Do] – oops!
Gong Gong sayang Kayne2x; [?] – can't make out, Mommy's gotta listen harder
Ma Ma sayang Kayne2x; [Mah Mah] – sounds like Momma
Yeh Yeh sayang Kayne2x; [Yeh Yeh] – this he says it very well!
Ee Ee sayang Kayne2x; [Ee Ee] – this he says it very well!
Ku Ma sayang Kayne2x” [Nyiah]

Swimming Champ

Time passes so quickly. It's now June and one half of the year gone. What has our swimming champ been up to? Take a look:-
Video 01
Video 02
Video 03
The kid is really into jumping these days. He recently discovered the art of lifting both feet up in the air at once and tries the stunt everywhere including the pool, the bathroom, the stairs linking lobby and basement carpark, the kerbs at the basement carpark, etc...you get the idea. Teacher in pre-school says the kid really has a good sense of balance and we can't agree more.
He'll hog the swing in school. Unsatisfied with the momentum when swinging off himself, he will point to the teacher to get them to give him a push. Recently, he learned to say, "ease elp" as in "Please help" when asking for a push on the swing.
He also learned to greet teacher Ms Min and Aunty Mon who prepares the food. He goes, "Min" and "Mon" :)

The kid is getting quite skillful on the swing. Take a look!

First Words

Everyone waited anxiously to hear Kayne’s first words. Patience finally paid off and endearing rewards are aplenty. Here are 10 things you should know about the kid, since the time he chose to speak:-

  1. He is crazy over colours. He points to his books and rattles on: “ed (red), buu (blue), een (green), rain (orange), tletle (purple), ack (black), chik (pink)”. Blue and green are his favourite. He will hold up the flash cards, e.g. with the blue and green on each hand and raise them up alternately like an enthusiastic cheerleader and go “buu, een, buu, een, buu, een, buu, een”!
  2. His interest for the Old Macdonald’s song started with him chanting the “O” when Daddy and Mommy went “E, I, E, I, O”. Now, he says the whole thing passionately but haphazardly, “E, II, EE, I, E…..OOOOOO”.
  3. He developed this association recently: ‘crying’ = ‘tissue paper’. If he is upset and wails, he wants to have the tissue paper at hand to wipe away the tears and clear his leaky nose. He will grip the tissue tightly as if savouring the solemn moment. Teachers at school encourage him to throw the tissue away after use. They go, “Kayne, please throw it away” and Kayne recently went “Cho ay” as in “throw away”.
  4. We always guessed the little kid had some sort of ‘fashion sense’. When Mommy says, “Put on the green shoes”, he would insist to wear the blue one. Recently, when Mommy and Kayne were getting ready to get out of the house, he picked out shoes for Mommy! Mind you, he protested strongly this morning when Mommy insisted to wear the black pair because he chose the grey one for Mommy instead! No choice, gotta put on the grey one instead!
  5. He is enjoying verbalising and asking for things (mostly food!) and in turn getting what he asked for. He loves asking for “nana” as in banana. Last night, while flipping through a book with a picture of a bunch of grapes, he went “ack” 3X as in “grapes”. In the mornings, he would go “Mer” as in Milk and during mealtimes he'll ask for 'more'!
  6. In anticipation of the May trip back to KL, Mommy pointed out to some family photos, and asked Kayne, “Where is Por Por?”. He pointed at Ee Ee! Mommy said, “That’s Ee Ee” and Kayne agreed and said “Ee Ee” and called Por Por, “Or Or”.
  7. Daddy’s in love with the way his little boy calls him now and that’s “Dee Dee”. When calm and composed, the kid calls out to Mommy, “Mah Mah”. When exasperated, he yells “Ma muay” or “Ma yeeeeeeee”.
  8. He’s faring very well doing No. 1 and No. 2 on Kuma’s potty at home. When doing No. 2, Mommy and Daddy will be there to cheer him on. And when he succeeds, he claps in delight and looks forward to flush!
  9. One day in pre school after nap time, the kids gathered in a circle for story time. Ms Laura asked,”How is everyone feeling today?”. No one answered that day, but Kayne surprisingly replied at the top of his voice, “INE” as in “fine, thank you!” much to everyone’s delight.
  10. He always enjoy a good Sesame Street show on DVD and will “act” or “dance along” to the video. He loves it when Billy Joel sings the “A, B, C” on Sesame Street. His favourite alphabets are, (Yes, you guessed it!) "O", "D" - for duck , "X"!

Happy birthday

The poor kid was running a temperature on his birthday. But plans were made and the party had to go on. He braved through the event and enjoyed the highlight of the day when the birthday song was sung. Happy Birthday, Lukas Kayne Jin!
