What a Wonderful World

"I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you.

I hear babies cry, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world"

The singing bug is still alive! Pre-school teacher Ms Yda shared with us K's current interest which is singing and his love for Louis Armstrong's What a Wonderful World. Teachers introduced the song to the kids and K memorised the lyrics after a few sessions.

Singing bug

Kayne is quite the singer these days. He'll break out in his high pitched, monotoned voice in excitement and sing "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" at home with the tambourine and drum stick accompanying himself. He gave a mini impromptu "performance" in school recently. Ms Renee videoed this little excerpt and informed that K thoroughly enjoyed the singing performance.

Btw, in the video you'll see a yellow sticker on his tee. That means he had 2 servings for lunch that day. Green sticker - 1 serving, Yellow sticker - 2 serving, Orange sticker - 3 serving! When we come home from work, K will gladly exclaimed to Daddy and Mommy the number of servings he had that day. We rarely have to ask, he'll give us an update:- "One! I had one!" or "Two! two servings today!".

3 Happy Faces

Attached is a photo taken by K's class teacher, Ms Renee and here's what she said:-

Just wanted to share with you a picture I took of Kayne & his friends in school today.

Both Asher & Kayne happened to share the same outfit today after shower. Kayne was really happy when I shared with the class that he shared the same outfit (colours) as Asher during circle time. I offered both Kayne & Asher to take a picture together, and Reuben decided to join in as well during the photo taking. Please find attached the picture of the three happy faces. I hope this photo contributes as one of Kayne's remembrance of his Nursery days in 717 before he moves on to 764.

Giraffe rules!

3 years pass by so quickly. Our friends of the zoo membership is up this month end. We made a dash to the zoo but weather was not on our side. Highlight of the visit was definitely feeding the giraffe. K was holding the carrot stick and before he knew it, the giraffe stuck out its tongue ever so gracefully and the carrot is gone! What an experience. The zoo keeper took photos for us!

Adventures in August

Such a nice moment - seeing K swim the distance in a 1.4m deep pool! Daddy says ok next step is to teach him breathing techniques.

Next challenge, get the head into the pool!

Fort Road Swim Champ

What do you get when you have an enthusiastic kid, hot weather, hang over from music class and a donut float?

Go on, take a look...

We figured great progress in the pool came about from a combination of a few events:-

1) Moving to Fort Road and having a pool again :)

2) With living on higher grounds (14th floor), K observed how people looked while swimming from an aerial view

3) He'll monitor the pool activities daily, he'll sit at the bay window ledge (btw, we have restricted the window openings) and exclaim - "Oh nobody swimming today", or "Oh, got (some) body swimming!"

4) He'll practice his strokes indoors with legs hanging on the bay window ledge and upper body and arms on the bed, tummy hanging in mid air.

5) Teacher Maria taught the kids an imaginative song in music class where first part of the song was to row a boat to an island. When the music stops, she'll ask them "Are you there yet?" and the kids will reply "No, not yet" and then the music starts again and this time they imagine sailing amongst dolphins. At the next stop, she'll ask them again, " Are you at the island yet?" and they will reply "YES!".

6) K loves his new wet suit!

7) Last Sunday, K was his usual - changed into his wetsuit in a jifty when Daddy asked if he would like to swim. We went down to the pool with some keropok and donut float in hand. K loves playing at the pool however, never swam the distance independently till of late. Mummy still with music class hangover, sang to him the "SONG" and encouraged him to swim to the island and *TADAH* there you have it! A swim champ!

Thank you Teacher Maria!

CNY Celebration

Kung fu master

K and Mommy soaking in the atmosphere

The kids started to jingle to the CNY music

The kids rehearsed the events few weeks ago. Here's K concentrating hard and following the teachers' cues.

Putting on the Lion's headgear

Getting the Lion ready for the walk. Head - check! Mid body - check! Tail - where are you?

Ms Renee said it was a natural choice for K to wear the LIon's head as during rehearsals he was eager to take it on eventhough it was heavy while some kids were fearful.
Mid way through the lion dance walk,  here's K concentrating intensely and making his round around the lawn. Oops, the tail is gone! Teachers stand in to assist.

K and Ms Laura - 1st class teacher in Preschool

K waiting patiently while the teachers get the lion together.

Happy 3rd Birthday

We celebrated K's 3rd Birthday end January with friends in school and a Thomas cake. Here are the kids waiting patiently while Ms Renee and Ms Nay prepare the candles and cake. K's best buddy, Asher is the little boy in orange sitting on K's left!

Happy Birthday, dear Lukas Kayne.
Mommy and Daddy love you so very much!

Random Creations

K is always excited about his creations. He'll ask for a photo to be taken after admiring them.

The A-B-C and 1-2-3 puzzle. K learnt how to sort out the various parts before assembling them. Once they are done, he would slide them around the house like a giant train and go "Choo, Choo!!!"

Early morning creation by the stairs

Busy with the Elmo 'cookie' cutter.

The infamous "UNO HOUSE". This gift from Aunty Edana is K's favourite. It comes with a house look-a-like briefcase.
Having fun with the 'tudong saji-s' at Mama's house and spotting a huge smile!

Alphabets - always K's favourite. Discovered a new game, that is to line up the 'Big A, Little A, and so on so forth - thanks to Dr Seuss' A-B-C!

Doodling and tracing over hands and feet - another favourite activity. He'll exclaim, K2x hands smaaaaalllll and Mommy's hand, biiiiiiiigggggg!

Smooth Glider

Last weekend, we had the opportunity to check out Aunty Joyce and Uncle Mong Lam's newly renovated apartment and cosy swimming pool. (Very kind of them!)

Here's a video of K gliding in the pool:-

Rider Cafe

We checked out this cool breakfast place tucked in a historical black and white building off the Bukit Timah Saddle Club. We were there last Saturday, had brunch amidst high ceilings, great view of horses, lush greenery surroundings, and that was not all. K had the opportunity to ride a pony! Definitely the highlight of the month. Take a look:-

Here's are some videos:-

The videos unfortunately did not capture the best part of the ride. K's head was nodding like a pendulum, it was really funny. He must have been really relaxed and nodded away to the rhythm of the pony's stride.

Excerpts of Growing Up

I do miss dotting around the blog. How do I know this? When I start uploading stories and photos, I find it hard to stop. Countless events flash through my mind and I start to ponder, could there be only 24 hours a day? That's a great pity as there are surely 48 excerpts to upload.

Excerpts of Growing Up are what Daddy and Mummy hold close to our hearts:-

What does K say when he sees an escalator in a mall (Especially those steep, high ones, like the one at Parco Millenia Walk)?
"Oh look! Want to climb the ladder!" as he rushes toward the escalator scaling the heights with Daddy in tow.

Oranges are still K's favourite fruit of the season. He'll come to Mummy and say, "Mummy, want to eat orange".
"Want to put orange like this" as he holds an orange freshly taken out from the fridge and puts it onto his cheeks.
Always delighted by how cold the orange is (even if this is a daily routine) he'll go, "Mummy, it's cold!".
"Mummy, cheeks is (are) cold! Want to put on Mummy's cheeks."

Green apples are the new red! K loves the granny smith sweet crunchy green apples. Mummy couldn't be happier. 10 hurrays for green apples!

Sitting on his booster seat during daily car rides back from school, K exclaims energetically, "Oh look! That's a blue taxi." "Mummy, that's a red taxi!" "Oh look, yellow taxi! Want to go (sit in a) yellow taxi." K did the same while in a taxi one day and the Taxi Uncle was so tickled he said to K, "Yah, so many colours hor!" Btw, K is always friendly to Taxi Uncles and the rare Taxi Aunties. At the end of the trip, he would bid them farewell in appreciation for the exciting ride. He'll go in a sing-song manner, "Bye Bye Uncle. See you again Uncle!"

How do you know when your kid fully understands the meaning of Good Morning and Good Night? -- Mummy says to K, "Good night, K". K replies,"No! It's Good Morning!"
- Mummy greets sleepy K, "Good morning, K!" K replies while eyes still closed, "No! It's good night. Want to sleep (some more)."

How do you know when your kid understands what 'Lan fun chee' means? Mummy says to K, "Who is the Lan fun chee?" K replies softly while eyes still shut, "Daddeeeee!"

K found a best mate in school in a boy called Asher. Asher loves to run around and teachers say that Asher is more active than K. (Mummy can't imagine that!) One day, Asher ran around while class was in session and K suddenly decided to join in. Very soon, the whole class was running around. Oh my, imagine that! Since that day, Mummy and Daddy ask K:-
"Does Vivienne like to run?" - "No", K replied.
"Does Caleb like to run?" - "No, it's Asher!" K tells us delightfully.
"When Asher runs what must Kayne Kayne say?" - "Asher, sit down pleeeeeeaaaassse." K says obediently.
And then, Daddy and Mummy thought, what a good boy he is. Let's see what happens the next day. Erm... what can we say, they ran again!

Ice Cream? Yes!

Now you see it...

Now you dont!

December 2010 - Yes, that's when K had a great cone in the company of great friends, Annette and Hartmut. Mind you, it was a giant cone proportionally speaking. Save Daddy and Mummy stealing bites along the way, he pretty much had it all by himself. Despite being swirled around like a giant Olympian torch, the ice cream survived and rest peacefully in K's contented tummy. What a satisfying lunch it was - Cookies and Cream from Udders!

Would you care to have some today?

Surprise Visit

Once again, Annette and Hartmut paid us a visit. The only difference this time was that it was almost a surprise visit considering how long they had to travel to reach Singapore taking non direct flights! An sms came and a week later in December 2010, *poof* they were here.

The first thing Kayne did when Aunty Annette arrived at our home was to run to the collage of photos sitting at our Living Room and point to a photo of Mummy and Annette taken in Melbourne. What good memory you have, K!

What can we say...we look forward to your next visit, Annette & Hartmut!

Adorable 3

As Kayne is approaching 3 end of this month, Daddy and Mummy recount fondly the events that define our little 'big' boy:-

- While at the back seat of the car, he displays co-driving syndromes giving Daddy directions with his pointer finger out, "Daddy, go here!" or "Daddy, go there!".

- While a new younger friend in school could not pronounce the Teacher's name, Kayne looked at her and said to her with his pointer finger out, "It's Ms Renee!".

- While new best friend, Jayden refused to eat during lunch time in pre-school, Kayne retorted a "Yes!" each time Jayden said "3 - Nos!" to Ms Renee. The funnier bit was when Ms Renee told us how they were both sitting on opposite ends of the snack room. Later, Kayne tried to tell Ms Charlotte (The pre-school principal) of Jayden's refusal to eat. He said to Ms Charlotte "Jayden, not eating" and smiled!

- One fine day, Mummy asked Kayne:- "What's your name?". He replied, "Tan Kayne Jon" and smiled cheekily.

- Wakes up in the morning and greets Mummy, "Good Morning Mum Phaik Sim!" and smiled from cheek to cheek.

- Daddy calls little 'big' boy - Director Jin. And why? Kayne orchestrates the events prior to sleep time carefully:-

1 First, he says to Daddy: "Daddy, make my milk, pleaaaaaassse!"
2 Then he directs Rose to her bedroom (regardless even if she's in the middle of doing the dishes) and says to her, "Rose Che Che, night night!" while he closes the door after her.
3 Then he looks at Mummy and says:- "Mummy, go upstairs"
4 And he goes upstairs with Mummy happily!

- Loves playing the 'What's inside?' game. He'll point to the sink hole and ask Mummy, "What's inside?" and he'll reply enthusiatically "Water!!!!".

- Yesterday at Pasta Fresca, he put a piece of pizza in his mouth. While chewing he looks at Daddy, points to his cheeks and says "What's inside, Daddy?". We replied to delighted Kayne:- "Could it be a PIZZA???"
