Embracing Change

August 2010 was an eventful month for our 21/2 year old. Events unfold as such in no particular order:-

>>>Spent a week in KL with grandparents while Mummy and Daddy were preparing for move

>>>'Promoted' to Nursery 1 class, Firefly Class along with other friends, i.e. Jack2x and Caleb (He was previously in pre-nursery Dragonfly Class)

>>>Got to know Firefly class teachers Ms Renee and Ms Adette a little better

>>>Said goodbye to dear Sun Lao Shi as she leaves the school to teach slightly older kids at another school branch

Ms Myn, Sun Lao Shi and Kayne

Here's a video of Sun Lao Shi and Kayne during evening pick-up time. Kayne is going to miss Lao Shi very much.

And he embraced these changes and challenges quite effortlessly. Bravo little Kayne!

Let's march

Here's the kid giving a little informal 'performance' to his friends and teachers at pre-school. May you be inspired to march your way into a fantastic Year 2010. Kayne sure does!

P/s: Anyone knows how to rotate a video? It was taken in portrait mode.

Art-imaginings

The kid loves art sessions in pre-school. Here are some shots taken last term, Oct - Dec 2009. (Yes, lots of backlog!)

Yash and Kayne

Sponging washable paint on Cloth - very 'green' approach indeed.

Katarina & Kayne painting a snowman

These abstract pieces by the kid are some of Mommy's favourites...

#02 - "Flight of the Bumble Bee"

#03 - "Clash of the Gold Fish"

P/s: Ee Ee, can you help to market some of my artwork? *wink*

Terrific Twos

The kid is going through a very special phase at this point. We call it the "Wonderful Twos" or "Terrific Twos" contrasting to the all but too famous "Terrible Twos". Just 2 months shy from turning 24 months, the kid seems to be entering an extended happy period peppered with laughing spells and lots of clapping.
Here's a very encouraging Ms Laura getting Kayne in the mood for lots of clapping and stamping to the tune of "If you're happy and you know it". Video credit goes to Sun Lao Shi. Thank you!

Funfare

Daddy and Mommy joined Kayne at the pre-school funfair on 2 October 2009, Friday. The sequence of events unfold quite simply.
BEFORE...
Kayne and Mommy - Nice and dry
& some moments AFTER...
Soaking wet from head to toe at the height of water play, pausing for a Kodak moment.

Starfish Class Photo

This is Kayne's first class photo. It was taken within the 2 weeks of settling down in pre-school. You can tell from the shot who the 'new kids on the block' were. Our guess is that one is carrying a back pack and the other, ahem...the 'mighty grip' bottle. Long live security toys!

Life in Pre-school

Here's a video showing little moments spent in pre-school, created by Sun Lao Shi on Children's Day, 1 October 2009.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enTQKyOLriQ

Look out for:-

  1. Art Sessions - He loves these sessions especially when they are involving playdough, paint or glue. Teachers said he can sit down for 20 mins at times.
  2. Crawling through 'tunnel' during Outdoor time.
  3. 'Mighty grip' water bottle - Kayne's best friend and security toy.
  4. Nepali outfit worn during Hari Raya Celebration. This outfit was meant for CNY 2010, but ahem, it's already too tight :(

Enjoy!

Sports Day

Here are some pics from Sports Day which was held in early August 2009. From the pics, you can almost guess that it was Kayne's early days in Pre-School. That explains the not-so-happy face eventhough he was at waterplay which is his all time favourite activity. Notice how he was not quite following the rules...(of the game)!

Kayne's 'best' friend and 'ko ko' - Jadon, 2 years
(They accompany each other till end of day each day)

Kayne's class mate - Annika, 19 months

Some updates: Kayne will be having Hari Raya Puasa celebrations in school tomorrow. The kids are asked to wear national costumes in line with the festive mood :)

Signs of growing up

Photo credit: Kuma

Our baby is growing up really fast and settling in well in pre-school. Amen! Here are 9 reasons why we say so:-
  1. Taking naps in pre-school without the dummy (oops... notwithstanding photo above);
  2. Following simple instructions such as "wash hands". Teacher said he walked down the corridor in school to the toilet to have his hands washed;
  3. Sits together with classmates during storytime, thanks to longer attention span;
  4. Stares intensely (not moving at all) at his Ms Laura or Sun Lao Shi during music time which he loves;
  5. Learning to feed himself with a spoon, e.g. fed himself macaroni for lunch today (030909) although messily;
  6. Chooses his sports shoes over the sandals when going to school;
  7. Laughs hysterically when Sun Lao Shi sings the rhythmic song "xiao lao shu" (little mouse in mandarin);
  8. "Declined" to sleep on classmate Jadon's bed when new assistant teacher, Ms Dawn unknowingly led him to it. He recognises his bed in school by the bedsheet and bolster case;
  9. If he wakes up from his noon time nap earlier than his classmates, he would not cry or make a noise. To our surprise, he picks up a book and flips the pages quietly while the rest of his classmates are in slumber.

Shall update 1 more reason over the weekend. Cheers!

Pre-school - Day 3 (After hours)

Kayne survived 3 consecutive half days at pre-school and teachers commented that he just might settle in well by end next week. Fingers crossed! Meanwhile, Kayne is savouring a sweet Friday evening at home. (Notice how Mommy's keys never left his grip)

Hmm...what a fine day. No more school - TGIF!

Shall I go to the playground? Or the minimart?

Minimart... here I come!

I love this place. Especially when I get to walk around and dish the pram.

Hmm...where are the lovely water bottles?

There they are - my favourite section of the minimart :)

Pre-school - Day 2

Classmates forming a line and following the teacher to the snack room.

Pre-school - Day 1

Here's Kayne and proud Daddy on the 1st day of pre-school - 29 July 2009! Mommy and Kayne spent half a day at pre-school getting acquainted with the teachers and routine. It was a tearful, tiring but eventful day. Kayne - you did well :)
